Now or Never - A START

Alert: First blog!

Everyone has a sceptical notion when it comes to writing a blog.
Millions of thoughts pouring in from round the corner.
Should I go with this? Should I go with that topic — Should I?

In this saga of though-wandering.. I made a step today to write out my first.
Hence I choose to warn you all to take a light read on the thoughts — a casual read in which I try to explain things I feel like and want to share.

Would be following the typical format of — IBC [ Intro-Body-Conclusion]

Intro

Currently in the Intro section, I would like to introduce the theme of the blog —

 STARTING SOMETHING NEW!

The point I want to make here is, to start something which you always wanted to do — overwhelms you at START.

YES!! I am SUPER EXCITED..while typing this sentence.
Don’t ask why!

Yet, there are some challenges that pops up when we start something new.
In next Body section — are some of the challenges that I come across — and how I handle them.

Body

CHALLENGES:

1. CHAOS
Not being able to organise, plan and channel the thought process — as the creative part of brain is competing with the analytical one. The creative one wants to explore all the crazy ideas and simulations when starting anew. The analytical one wants to weight the pros and cons of each task to be done, calculate the entropy needed to execute it and most predominantly — trying to answer the question — how does doing this activity help me?

2. INERTIA
Once the task starts on — vibe kicks in. But before or after that — there is INERTIA.
Let me give you some examples:

a) For how long have you been planning to go for that one bike trip to Ladhak? — Here the before INERTIA comes into play. You have hundreds of reasons to put forward — budget issues, leave shortage, exams etc. But for time being, if you made the effort to break the INERTIA — would not it be one of the most memorable time of your life — to be on the roads of Ladhak with the RE — raising at the speed of your heartbeat!

b) For how long have you been planning to learn guitar and play your favourite song on it? — In this case, let’s consider that you were able to arrange you friend’s guitar and started to learn. Additionally, for time being assume both ways — you learnt online for a week or two on YT and then enrolled yourself in a beginner class —1 hour once a week. How many times now were your able to practice on the guitar? — Here comes in after INERTIA — you still have similar excuses as above, a sense of not picking up the guitar, and an additional bonus in the form of guilt of wasting money over class which you are not attending the next week of enrolling. But if you would have overcome the after INERTIA — would it be the perfect proposal — with you singing the song, playing the guitar and asking your partner for acceptance of your love!

3. SOCIAL VALIDATION
For sure — everyone wants to be top of their social media game. Everything one does — wants to be appreciated and admired for. The craving for being in limelight of others attention is never ending. Whenever we start something new, a part of our emotions go into this section — where we are trying to please someone and get their approval. There is no harm in expressing and sharing things on a constructed cyber world. Yet to what extent the activity is done for self and not for others is that matters!

HANDLING THEM OUT:

There might be better or best ways to handle above mentioned aspects out. But some of it that works for myself are listed here:

1. CHAOS
Always talk to someone who believes in you and your ideology. I talk it out with my close buddies — make them understand why the activity is important to me, why I want to get invested into the task. At this particular moment — you provide your crazy side of brain to come up with creative ideas to impress the other person and make them involved into the same. At the same time your analytical brain does not want you to picture you as dumb. It provides for arguments that help you understand why this task is important to you and how this task helps you — emotionally, physically, spiritually, mentally or in any other way.

2. INERTIA
Always keep list of task in front of you — deadline set targets provide brain a sense of adrenaline. Want to go to Ladhak in next 6 months? — plan for saving money (2000 bucks a month) — That’s like sacrificing two to three beers every weekend. Leaves, exams are out of bound — block your calendar that year mentioning to people that you are not available for personal reasons. Want to learn guitar and play your favourite song? — When in stress of anything — go back to the guitar and start playing it. Stuck somewhere in traffic and frustrated — record the jamming session you last played and listen to it — find mistakes and scope of improvement your self.
Brain demands for a feedback mechanism — if it knows it doing great — it will be tempted to do it more better and hence the eagerness to go back to the activity. If its not doing well — the INERTIA. Break the inertia by letting the brain know that it’s doing good and it would reach to a mastering phase soon.

3. SOCIAL VALIDATION
Challenge point 3 and How to handle it point 1 — seems to be similar in the first go. But they are not. Human being is different from other species for the fact that — humans tend to perform better if given a reward or compensation for the sacrifices made. Survival of the fittest — personified.
If I am good at something — I will let all know about it and get the praise.
This thinking is good until it overpowers the main aspect of the activity itself. After a point — the activity looses its importance — it was suppose to be for yourself, executed by yourself, cherished by yourself.
I express my feelings via this blog with a motive that — it should inspire few like minded people to achieve what THEY believe in. With this belief my brain does not crave for the social validation in forms of likes & subs. Even if one person appreciates the efforts and gets inspired — I would cherish it as a win.

A close friend of mine — mentioned this to me recently (sounds general — until it hits you at the right time):

DO WHAT YOU WANT TO DO
WITHOUT ANY INHIBITIONS
FOR YOUR-SELF
IF YOU BELIEVE IN IT

Conclusion

Somewhere — I feel it was too lengthy — unorganised — irrelevant.
But as said about — its the START, I will improve. But I hope this START of mine — was useful to you and inspires you as well to START something NEW.
